เปิดตำนาน ไฟนอล แฟนตาซี
ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี (ญี่ปุ่น: Fainaru Fantaji ; อังกฤษ: Final Fantasy)
เป็นเกมแนว RPG (role playing games) หรือเกมภาษา ที่ได้รับความนิยมอย่างสูง สร้างขึ้นโดยบริษัท สแควร์อีนิกซ์ (Square-Enix) (ชื่อเดิม บริษัทสแควร์) ซึ่งเกมชุดนี้อาจเป็นเกมชุดที่วางจำหน่ายมากที่สุดตลอดกาล โดยมีทั้งในแบบของ เครื่องเกมคอนโซล, เครื่องเกมเคลื่อนที่, เกมออนไลน์, เกมบนโทรศัพท์เคลื่อนที่, ภาพยนต์การ์ตูน 3 เรื่อง และ ภาพยนต์ CGI (Computer-generated imagery) เรื่องยาว 2 เรื่อง
ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี ชุดแรกออกว่างจำหน่ายใน ประเทศญี่ปุ่น เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2530 นอกจากนี้ ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี ยังได้รับการแปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ และวางขายในภูมิภาคอื่นๆ เช่น ทวีปอเมริกาเหนือ, ทวีปยุโรป และออสเตรเลีย เครื่องเล่นเกมที่มี ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี ออกจำหน่าย ได้แก่ แฟมิคอม, ซูเปอร์แฟมิคอม, ซูเปอร์นินเทนโด, เพลย์สเตชั่น, WonderSwan Color, เพลย์สเตชั่น 2, เกมคอมพิวเตอร์, เกมบอยแอดวานซ์, เกมคิวบ์ และโทรศัพท์มือถือ นอกจากนี้ในอนาคต มีการคาดการณ์ว่าจะออกในเครื่องเล่นต่างๆ เพิ่มขึ้น คือบนเครื่องเล่นระบบ Nintendo DS, Nintendo Revolution, PlayStation Portable, เพลย์สเตชั่น 3 และ เอ็กซ์บอกซ์ 360
จนถึงปลายพ.ศ. 2548 ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี ถือว่าเป็นเกมที่ประสบความสำเร็จสูงสุดของบริษัทสแควร์อีนิกซ์ ซึ่งมียอดขายรวมมากกว่า 60 ล้านชุดทั่วโลก ปัจจุบันมีเกมในชุดหลักออกจำหน่ายแล้ว 11 เกม และมีเกมที่เกี่ยวข้องอีกมากมาย
บทนำ
บริษัทสแควร์จำกัด ได้เริ่มเข้ามาสู่ธุรกิจวิดีโอเกมในช่วงกลางของยุค 2523 เพื่อพัฒนาเกม RPG สำหรับเกมระบบ Nintendo's Famicom Disk System (FDS) ซึ่งเป็นอุปกรณ์แผ่นดิสก์เสริมภายนอกเพื่อเล่นแผ่นดิสก์สำหรับเครื่องเกมแฟมิคอม (หรือที่รู้จักกันในนาม Nintendo Entertainment System หรือ NES) ในพ.ศ. 2530 ความนิยมใน FDS ได้เสื่อมถอยลงจนสแควร์ ต้องประสบกับภาวะล้มละลาย และในขณะนั้นเอง ฮิโรโนบุ ซาคากุจิ นักออกแบบเกมของสแควร์ ก็เริ่มสร้างเกม RPG แนวแฟนตาซีใหม่ในรูปแบบตลับเกมแฟมิคอม ซึ่งได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากเกม ดราก้อนเควสของบริษัทอีนิกซ์ ซาคากุจิวางแผนไว้ว่าจะวางมือหลังจากสร้างเกมนี้เป็นเกมสุดท้าย เขาจึงตั้งชื่อเกมนั้นว่า ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี และเกมนี้จะเป็นเกมสุดท้ายของสแคว์อีกด้วย แต่เป็นที่เชื่อกันโดยทั่วไปว่าบริษัทสแควร์เป็นฝ่ายตั้งชื่อเกมนี้ มิใช่ตัวซาคากุจิ แต่เขาเองยืนยันว่าเกมได้ชื่อนี้เพราะเขาจะวางมือ อย่างไรก็ตาม ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี ก็ไม่ใช่ความมหัศจรรย์ครั้งสุดท้ายเช่นชื่อ เกมนี้ได้พลิกวิกฤตเป็นโอกาสให้กับทั้งสแควร์และซาคากุจิ และยังสร้างเงินจำนวนมหาศาลอีกด้วย
จากความสำเร็จของภาคแรก สแควร์ก็เร่งผลิตเกมภาคใหม่ออกมา แต่ต่างจากภาคแรก ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี II มีเป็นตัวละครใหม่ทั้งหมด แต่ยังคงดำเนินเรื่องราวตามแนวหลักเหมือนกับภาคแรก ซึ่งเกมในภาคต่อๆ มาก็ดำเนินเรื่องตามแนวหลักนี้เช่นกัน ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี ในแต่ละภาค จะแนะนำให้ผู้เล่นได้รู้จักกับโลกใหม่และระบบการเล่นใหม่ เกมในแต่ละภาคจะมีเนื้อเรื่องที่แตกต่างและไม่ต่อเนื่องกัน ยกเว้น ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี X-2 ในปี พ.ศ. 2546 (หลังจากที่ได้ควบกิจการกับ อีนิกซ์) ซึ่งเป็นเรื่องราวต่อจากตอนจบของ ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี X ไฟนอลแฟนตาซี ได้ให้แนวทางสำหรับสแควร์เองในการผลิตเกมและภาพยนตร์ที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวเนื่องอีกหลายเกม รวมทั้งยังเป็นตัวอย่างแนวทางให้เกม RPG อื่นๆ อีกหลายเกม
